A (modern) fire origin story

Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010

An exciting thing happened halfway through Toronto’s Winter City Festival this weekend- A fire origin story was performed by Ojibway storyteller/artist Aaron Bell while his White Pine dancers celebrated under the glow of the Flaming Lotus Girls’ Angel of Apocolypse fire installation (seen in background). For a few brief hours in a dark and ice cold Nathan Philip Square, Torontonians sat huddled round one another in awe of the gift of fire and of the narrative.

Aaron Bell, a non-traditional Ojibway storyteller for 15 years uses spoken word, drama, comedy and the talents of the White Pine dance troupe to share First Nations  culture with diverse groups of Canadian people. Find more info here.
